F A Q

Parents new to Youth Ice Hockey or new to our organization usually have a lot of questions. We've summarized the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) with the answers below. Feel free to download our Club Handbook which provides useful information about our program.

FACT: The Huskies instituted the USA Hockey Cross-Ice Program during the 2001-2002 Season and has become an example of leadership in player development.
  • How much will it cost for the 2009-10 Season (September through February)? Click Here!  (and then hit "Back" on your browser)

  • How and where do I SIGNUP as a Player, Coach, or Team Manager? Click Here! (Opens New Window)

  • I want to Coach, what info do I need and who do I contact? Click Here!  (and then hit "Back" on your browser)

  • How do I get e-mails about the club or a specific team? Most or all information is on our public website. To receive the latest information, you must register (signup) as a player in our club. You can then forward the information on your team to Friends and Family.

  • How do I get a Jersey for REC or Travel Hockey? The Huskies will notify the membership when REC Jerseys go on sale. Travel Hockey? Click Here!

  • What do the "colors" mean... for example, Bantam Blue? The colors are generally the rankings of the Travel Teams in the order of Blue, Silver, and Black.  For REC teams, if there is one at an age group (ie. Bantam), the name would be Bantam REC. If there are  more than one team at the same age group, then it would be Blue and White (ie. Bantam REC Blue, Bantam REC White). Therefore, on the practice and game schedules, you could see names like, Bantam Blue, Bantam Silver, Bantam Black, and Bantam REC. The teams WITHOUT the word "REC" in them are Travel Teams.

  • Where do the Huskies play their home/away games and practices? Our home rink is Columbia but we also use Gardens Ice House in Laurel as a home because of our need for additional ice. Normally, our away games are within the Metropolitan DC area although there are times that the teams travel outside of this area but its coordinated through the team and its Coaches and Manager(s).

  • When will practices and games be held? The schedules for practices and games will be posted on the website under "Schedules" As soon as they are available, they will be posted and the membership will be notified. Check Under "Practices" and "Master Schedule" for updates.
Practices are normally a "set" time and game times vary depending on the team that you will be playing against. There are no fixed times for games. Your Team Manager will be responsible for maintaining your team's schedule and practice information on the website.

  • How many practices and games will I have? For our REC program, generally there is 1 practice a week with one game a weekend, either Saturday or Sunday, occasionally both days. The Travel program generally has 2 practices a week with usually two games on a weekend.

  • How can I get directions to a rink? To find a rink, Click Here! for Arena Maps.

  • Who is Howie the Husky? Click Here!  (and then hit "Back" on your browser)

  • How can I learn to run the time clocks so I can help out during games?  Contact your team manager who can arrange to have you trained on the clock systems.
  • If there is inclement weather, how do I know if my games or practices are canceled? For game cancellations, your team manager or Coach should notify you. For practices, if the Columbia and/or Laurel Rinks are open, then you will have practice unless your coach specifically cancels it or you are notified by the club, usually by e-mail. Please use your own discretion and comfort level in driving to practices and games during inclement weather. If you cannot make a practice or a game because of the weather, do your best to notify your coach or team manager. To check if OUR home rinks are open, call Columbia Ice Rink: 410-730-0322 or the Gardens Ice House in Laurel: 410-792-4947. As usual, the club will e-mail you as soon as we are notified of any rink closures or cancellations.
