Champions again in 2010!

The Midget Blue Team repeated as CBHL 18U National Division Champions with a thrilling 4-3 win over the Richmond Royals today @ The Gardens Ice House in Laurel.

The weekend started with a solid 6-2 win over the Bowie Bruins in the CBHL Semi Final game on Saturday @ The Gardens Ice House's Logsdon Rink.  After trailing early 2-0, the Huskies rallied to score 6 straight goals enroute to the victory which earned them a second straight trip to the CBHL Midget 18U Championship Game. Assistant Captain Alex Fischbach, who celebrated his 18th birthday Sunday, got the Huskies on the board with a power play goal 3:10 into the second period (assists by Andrew DiFerdinando and DJ Fadler). The Huskies tied it up as assistant captain Steven Perdigao scored a pivotal shorthanded goal only 49 seconds later. The Huskies second shorty game from Paul Fletcher  2 minutes and 54 seconds later and the Huskies never trailed again. Kevin Zerhusen closed out the second period scoring on a beautiful goal from the high slot with 57 seconds left in the second period (assist DJ Bennett).  Justin Stockman and Adam Altieri added third period goals and goalie Michael Peters was outstanding in the net stopping 28 out of 30 Bowie shots to get the win.
Fast forward to Sunday @ noon on the Patrick Rink. This widely anticipated match up started off with each team getting opportunities on the power play . As the 1st period moved along, the Huskies struck first on a power play goal by team captain Adam Altieri with 5:23 left in the 1st period. The Huskies added another on Altieri's second  power play goal of the contest with 2:29 left in the 1st with helpers by Andrew DiFerdinando and Alex Fischbach. The score was 2-0 Huskies after one period. Richmond turned up the heat with three goals in the second and after thirty four minutes of play, the Huskies trailed 3-2. Just a minute and forty nine seconds into the final period, the Huskies tied it up on an unbelievable goal by Justin Stockman who seemed to handcuff the Richmond net minder. Andrew DiFerdinando got his second assist of the game. The two teams traded scoring opportunities over the next several minutes as the action was fast and furious. with about six and a half minutes left to play in the third period, Steven Perdigao got control of the puck in the Huskies zone and sent it to defenseman, Matt Wilkerson, who carried the puck out of the defensive zone and into the neutral zone before he led D J Fadler with an excellent pass who carried the puck down the left wing into the Richmond zone where he made no mistake with his shot and scored the game winner with 6:25 left in the game. The Huskies play tenacious defense and held off Richmond to gain their second consecutive CBHL crown. Goalie Todd Seay stopped 27 of 30 shots to get the win. It's now on to the Maryland State playoffs where the Huskies will take on the Bowie Bruins in a best of 3 series to determine who advances to the USA Hockey 18U Tier 2 National Championship Tournament in Rochester, NY from April 7th-11th, 2010.
